I maybe completely wrong; I think the top of the image is the sun is a reflection from a small cloud formation, then below is the sun, and below that is another reflection, only smaller, appearing at the top of the wave. My answer is "It is a wonder of nature"

When sun is low in the sky, you might think that some optical phenomena is a possibility but I have a problem with this idea; the object in this photo is visibly smaller than our sun and is directly underneath it. All mirages and reflections are of same size as the objects they emanate from and all planets of our solar system are on same plane as earth is. We never see moon setting below the sun, do we.:D:D

I seen this effect a lot growing up on the west coast. Think of it kind of like a rainbow only for the sun. Light loves to reflect like on raindrops or through thick portion of the atmosphere. The lower the sun is on the horizon the more atmosphere the light must pass through before we see it. :) Love the image ♥
