I was walking along the trail at one of my favorite Nature Centers one morning when I saw the shadows of these maple leaves way up on a tree trunk. I thought it was really neat; I couldn't tell what kind of leaves they because of their angle to me; but their shadows gave away what they were.

I actually love both trees. Maple for its daintiness and color and oak for its massiveness and long life. My favorite is Hungarian oak, and of maples... Japanese maples and sugar maple... have all three in my garden.
No, you're right. It is a maple tree. Now that I've enlarged the image, I could see by the shape of the leaf that it was a maple..., and the shadow of the leaf could have told me that, too. Aaah..., I'm not perfect yet, ha ha ha!
Thanks Elaine, you're right, this image would fit more in the 'Shadows' part of the group because of perspective. If the sun wasn't in that exact location to give us that shadow from the leaves we'd see a different point-of-view.
