Leontopodium nivale, commonly called edelweiss, is a mountain flower belonging to the daisy or sunflower family Asteraceae. The plant prefers rocky limestone places at about 1,800–3,400 metres altitude. It is non-toxic and has been used in traditional medicine as a remedy against abdominal and respiratory diseases.

Many thanks to you both. The Edelweiss grows in the higher altitudes in the Alps, mostly Austria and Switzerland, but also Italy and France and some of the balkan countries. The flower is a national symbol in Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Romania.It is growing high up in usa and Canada, any place high enough (1,800 to 3,400 metres altitude in feet: 5,906 to 11,155) feet measurements arec rounded up or down
