Kolka horn is the northernmost point in Kurzeme. It is 7km long and 2km deep sandbank which runs into the sea at the place where the Irbe Straights of the The Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Riga meet together. The horn used to be a dangerous place for the ships, until a lighthouse was built at the end of the sea shelf in 1884. Today only the remains of the lighthouse are still present. During the spring season the horn attracts many bird’s watchers as thousands of birds cross the cape on their migration ways.
