Our adventure began on a dusty road that meandered through the ancient reef formation of the San Rafael Swell. We noticed some cars parked at the upper trailhead, just off the road, but we continued down the rough but navigable 4×4 road to the lower trailhead.
Our hike began on a wide, windy, sandy wash with high walls all around us. As the canyon narrowed, terrain quickly became otherworldly — forces of wind, water and gravity creating impossible formations, colors and textures.
