Diamonds, which were formed billions of years ago under intense heat and pressure when diamond-bearing ore was brought to the surface through volcanic eruption. After the magma cooled, it solidified into blue ground, or kimberlite, where precious rough diamonds are still found today. They are highly sought-after precious Gems, which for centuries have been widely used in the creation and encrustation of jewellery and everyday items. - It was over 4,000 years ago that the first diamonds were mined in India. Modern mining as we know it today began in South Africa in the late 19th century.
